The Honest Owner's Guide

HGV Max — Is the
Upgrade Worth It?

8 min read · Includes calculator
Quick Answer

HGV Max is a membership layer that connects Bluegreen, Hilton Grand Vacations, and Hilton Vacation Club properties into one booking network — but it is NOT automatic, NOT free, and NOT what many sales presentations imply. Joining requires a new points purchase (often $10,000+), it does not lower or cap assessed maintenance fees, and converting points to Hilton Honors returns far less hotel value than most owners expect. For some owners it's worth it. For many, it isn't. Run your own numbers in the calculator below before you sign anything.

HGV Max Math — You Decide

Plug in your real numbers. We show the math; you make the call.

Honors conversion assumptions — verify current terms:

  • • 1 Bluegreen point = 11.2 Hilton Honors points (not the other way around).
  • • You can only convert your NEXT year's allotment — never leftover or banked points. You must tell Bluegreen before the use year starts.
  • • Once every 2 years, no exceptions.
  • • $194 per conversion (free for Bluegreen Diamond — 100k grandfathered / 115k new VIP — but still limited to 2-year cadence).
  • • Illustrative Honors fee-redemption assumption: 500 Honors = $1 toward an assessed bill, not a guaranteed current entitlement. The existing owner-portal screenshot shows this rate, but does not establish current eligibility for your account or for Honors converted from Bluegreen points.
  • • Direct Bluegreen-point fee payments and Hilton Honors fee redemptions are separate routes. Confirm current eligibility, rate, limits and charges in the owner portal before relying on either.

What HGV Max Will NOT Do
  • ✗ Joining does not lower or cap assessed maintenance fees or prevent increases
  • • Eligible points-for-fees redemptions can pay part of an already-assessed bill; they do not reduce what the resort assesses. Direct Bluegreen-point payments and Hilton Honors redemptions are separate routes; confirm eligibility, rate, limits and charges in the owner portal.
  • ✗ Will not guarantee access — rollout of features is gradual

What HGV Max Actually Is

When Hilton Grand Vacations acquired Bluegreen Vacations, owners started hearing about HGV Max at every update meeting. Here's the plain-English version.

HGV Max is a membership program layered on top of your existing ownership. It connects three formerly separate systems — Bluegreen, Hilton Grand Vacations, and Hilton Vacation Club (formerly Diamond) — so members can book across the combined portfolio. It also adds Hilton-side perks: Hilton Honors membership, the ability to convert your points to Hilton Honors points, and member rates at Hilton hotels.

That's the real product. Everything else you heard at the sales table needs a closer look.

Stopped at an HGV Max Kiosk? What It Is and What to Ask

If someone at a resort kiosk or desk asked whether you've "heard about HGV Max" or invited you to an owner update, the invitation may involve a sales presentation. As covered below, the only way into HGV Max is a new qualifying points purchase. Before you go, ask what the meeting is for, whether attending comes with any conditions, and for written eligibility and purchase terms.

You don't have to decide anything at the kiosk. If you choose to attend, bring this checklist and ask each question before agreeing to anything:

  1. What is the total price? The new points, price per point, the enrollment fee, and the annual HGV Max Club Dues, all written on one page.
  2. Will this change my maintenance fees? Joining HGV Max does not lower or cap assessed maintenance fees. Where your account offers an eligible points-for-fees redemption, spending points can pay part of an already-assessed bill; it does not reduce what the resort assesses or prevent increases. Direct Bluegreen-point fee payments and Hilton Honors fee redemptions are separate routes. Confirm current eligibility, rate, limits and charges in the owner portal, and ask for any claimed assessment reduction in writing.
  3. Which benefits do I lose? Joining phases out Choice Privileges perks and folds Traveler Plus into the Max dues. Ask what happens to each benefit you use today.
  4. What exactly is the Hilton Honors conversion? The rate (1 Bluegreen point = 11.2 Honors points), which points qualify, how often you can convert, and the fee, in writing.
  5. How far ahead can I book HGV and Hilton Vacation Club resorts? Cross-booking windows are shorter than your Bluegreen windows, so ask for the current window and check availability for a trip you actually want.
  6. How long do I have to cancel after signing? Ask for the cancellation terms in writing, and check with Bluegreen/HGV for current terms.
  7. Can I take the paperwork home? A real offer survives a night to run the numbers. Use the calculator on this page and the free ownership audit first.

What It Costs to Join

If you're a current Bluegreen owner, you are not grandfathered into HGV Max — at any level. Not Silver, not Gold, not Platinum, not Diamond. The only path in is a new qualifying points purchase through a sales gallery.

Owners report offers in the range of 4,000 points at $3–4 per point — roughly $12,000 or more — plus a one-time enrollment fee and annual HGV Max Club Dues on top of your existing maintenance fees. And those numbers come from sales presentations, so treat any quote you receive as a starting point, not a fixed price.

What HGV Max Will NOT Do

This is the section every owner needs before sitting through an "owner update." Separate what membership changes from how you pay an assessed bill.

Joining HGV Max does not lower or cap assessed maintenance fees. Your maintenance fees are set by your resort's budget — staffing, insurance, property taxes, reserves. Paying part of a bill with eligible points does not reduce what the resort assesses or prevent increases.

Paying an assessed bill is different from reducing the assessment. Where your account offers an eligible points-for-fees redemption, spending those points can pay part of an already-assessed bill. Direct Bluegreen-point fee payments and Hilton Honors fee redemptions are separate routes; converting points to Honors does not by itself establish eligibility for fee redemption. Confirm current eligibility, rate, limits and charges with the owner portal before relying on either route.

It will not deliver everything on day one. The rollout has been gradual. Cross-booking into the wider portfolio opened in phases, the booking window for Max cross-bookings is short (several months out, subject to availability), and features continue to arrive in stages. "You'll have access to hundreds of resorts" and "you can book them the way you book Bluegreen today" are two very different statements.

It may quietly remove benefits you already have. Joining Max phases out Choice Privileges perks Bluegreen owners currently enjoy — the Choice VIP rate, point conversion to Choice, and automatic Choice elite status — and folds Traveler Plus into the Max dues. Some owners come out ahead on that trade. Others lose benefits they actually used.

The Hilton Honors Conversion: Do the Math

The headline perk — "use your points at Hilton hotels!" — comes with rules most owners are never told.

The conversion rate is 1 Bluegreen point = 11.2 Hilton Honors points. (Sales reps sometimes flip this — get it in writing.)

But the rate is only half the story. Here are the rules that actually matter:

  • You can only convert your NEXT year's allotment — not leftover points, not banked points, not this year's unused points. You must tell Bluegreen before the use year starts how many of next year's points you want converted to Honors.
  • You can only do this once every two years.
  • It costs $194 per conversion. Free for Bluegreen Diamond level (100k grandfathered / 115k new VIP tier) — but still limited to once every two years.
  • Illustrative Honors fee-redemption assumption: 500 Hilton Honors points = $1 of credit toward an assessed bill. The existing owner-portal screenshot shows this rate, but does not establish current eligibility for your account or for Honors converted from Bluegreen points. Under the calculator's existing assumptions, a 20,000-point conversion generates 224,000 Honors, an illustrative $448 toward an assessed bill before the $194 conversion fee if you're not Diamond, with the modeled conversion once every two years. This is not a guaranteed current entitlement; confirm eligibility, rate, limits and charges in the owner portal. Direct Bluegreen-point fee payments are a separate route.

If someone at a sales table implied you'd be "vacationing on Honors points" or "offsetting your fees through Hilton" — now you know why that math was never shown to you on paper.

When HGV Max IS Worth Considering

Fair is fair — Max isn't a scam, it's a product. It can make sense if:

  • You genuinely want access to HGV and HVC resorts in destinations Bluegreen doesn't cover, and you'll actually travel there
  • You were planning to buy more points at retail anyway
  • You travel enough that the consolidated perks (waived Traveler Plus renewal, guest certificates, booking flexibility) replace things you currently pay for separately
  • You've run the break-even math and the added value covers the upgrade cost within a handful of years

If none of those describe you, the resorts you already love and the booking windows you already have don't change by saying no.

Before You Sign Anything

Use the calculator above with your real numbers — your quote, your points, your fees, your actual travel habits. Then ask the sales rep to put every claimed benefit in writing. If a benefit is real, it survives being written down.

The 25+ Hilton Resorts HGV Max Owners Can Book

If you do join HGV Max, the practical upside is access to Hilton Grand Vacations and Hilton Vacation Club properties Bluegreen doesn't own — Elara on the Las Vegas Strip, The Modern in Waikiki, The Central at 5th in Manhattan, Anderson Ocean Club and Ocean Enclave in Myrtle Beach, Cabo Azul in Los Cabos, SeaWorld Orlando, Historic Powhatan and Greensprings in Williamsburg, plus Sedona, Charleston, Santa Fe, and more. Browse the full list of HGV Max-eligible resorts in the Resort Explorer (filter by "HGV Max only") or pick one directly in the Trip Planner.

Key Takeaways
  • HGV Max requires a new points purchase (often $10,000+) plus enrollment and annual dues — no current Bluegreen owner is grandfathered in.
  • Joining HGV Max does not lower or cap assessed maintenance fees. Eligible points redemptions can pay part of an already-assessed bill, without reducing the assessment or preventing increases; direct Bluegreen-point payments and Hilton Honors redemptions are separate routes. Confirm current eligibility, rate, limits and charges in the owner portal.
  • 1 Bluegreen point converts to 11.2 Hilton Honors points, but only your NEXT year's allotment, once every two years, for a $194 fee (free for Diamond). The calculator uses 500 Honors = $1 as an illustrative fee-redemption assumption, not a guaranteed current entitlement; confirm account eligibility and current terms in the owner portal.
  • The rollout is phased: cross-booking windows are short and features arrived gradually, not on day one.
  • Joining phases out some existing benefits (Choice Privileges perks) — know what you're trading away.
  • Get every promised benefit in writing before signing.

HGV Max FAQ

What is the HGV Max kiosk at my resort?

It may be an invitation to an HGV Max sales presentation. Current Bluegreen owners aren't grandfathered into HGV Max, and the only way in is a new qualifying points purchase. Ask what the meeting is for, whether attending comes with any conditions, and for written eligibility and purchase terms. You don't have to decide anything at the kiosk.

What is Bluegreen HGV Max?

HGV Max is a membership layered on top of your Bluegreen ownership. It connects Bluegreen, Hilton Grand Vacations and Hilton Vacation Club resorts into one booking network and adds Hilton Honors perks, including converting points to Honors at 1 Bluegreen point = 11.2 Honors points.

Is HGV Max worth it for Bluegreen owners?

Sometimes. It can make sense if you'll actually travel to HGV and Hilton Vacation Club resorts Bluegreen doesn't have, or were planning to buy more points anyway. Joining does not lower or cap assessed maintenance fees. Eligible points-for-fees redemptions may pay part of an assessed bill, but do not reduce the assessment or prevent increases. Confirm current eligibility and terms in the owner portal, then run your own numbers before you sign.

HGV Max vs. Bluegreen points: what's the difference?

Your Bluegreen points are still the currency you book with. HGV Max adds access to the wider HGV and Hilton Vacation Club portfolio, with shorter booking windows for those cross-bookings, plus Hilton Honors conversion. It also phases out some benefits you have today, such as Choice Privileges perks.

Will HGV Max lower my maintenance fees?

Joining HGV Max does not lower or cap assessed maintenance fees. Where your account offers an eligible points-for-fees redemption, spending points can pay part of an already-assessed bill without reducing what the resort assesses or preventing increases. Direct Bluegreen-point payments and Hilton Honors fee redemptions are separate routes. The calculator's 500 Honors = $1 rate is illustrative, not a guaranteed current entitlement. Confirm current eligibility, rate, limits and charges in the owner portal before relying on either route.
